StickFrag › Chromebook

A free FPS for your Chromebook

StickFrag is a multiplayer first-person shooter that runs in Chrome. On a Chromebook there is nothing to install: open the page, type a name and you are in a match.

Why it works on a Chromebook

Most shooters need a download, a launcher and a strong graphics card. A Chromebook can install none of that, and a school Chromebook often blocks app installs entirely. StickFrag is a web page: the game draws its world in the browser with WebGL, which every Chromebook supports. The comic look, with flat colours and ink lines, is light enough for a small laptop.

What you need

Keep it smooth

  1. Set graphics to LOW. In a match, press Esc, open Settings and pick LOW under Graphics. It turns off the most expensive effects.
  2. Turn on Show FPS in the same menu to see how fast the game runs.
  3. Close other tabs, above all video and other games.
  4. Plug in the charger. Many laptops slow down to save the battery.
  5. Lower the mouse sensitivity in Settings if aiming feels jumpy on a touchpad.

Crouching without closing the tab

Ctrl crouches, and Ctrl+W normally closes a Chrome tab. Crouch with C instead, or switch the game to fullscreen in Settings, where Ctrl+W crouches and the tab stays open.

If it does not load

If the page opens but you never get into a match, your network may block game connections. That is common on school and work networks. Ask whoever runs the network; please do not try to get around your school's rules. At home it works on any normal connection.

Open it on your Chromebook and fight.
